My kids, 5 and 4 respectively, visited a Pumpkin Patch few days ago. They were both elated with the experience and brought home some pumpkins and stories after stories. They reminded me that a Halloween celebration could be venturesome and yet unfrightening.
If you are a mother visiting the Honolulu County with kids in tow or a resident who wants an alternative to the usual scary Halloween celebration, below is a list of children-friendly Halloween activities around the county that may interest you:
1.) Halloween Dress Rehearsal at the Disney Store – For moms with young kids into Disney characters, this will be surely a hit. On October 18, Friday, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on October 19, Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Disney Store in Ala Moana Mall will be holding a Halloween dress rehearsal for all princesses, heroes and other Disney characters fanatics. This event is free and requires children to be at least 3 years old to be able to participate. For more information, please contact (808) 957-0050.
2.) Hallelujah Night – Do you want a witch-free, goblin-free, and grotesque costume-free Halloween, only candies and delicious treats, games, and live entertainment? Then, this is the place for you. Sponsored by the First Assembly of God (FirstAOG), the Hallelujah Night is a free-for-all event that will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on October 31 at 3400 Moanalua Road in Honolulu. 3.) Windward Mall’s Safe Trick-or-Treat – From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on October 31, participating stores at the Windward Mall will be opened for a dose of trick-or-treats. Kids are, however, expected to be in costumes while strutting from one stall to another. Check their website for further details.
4.) Halloween Costume Story Time – For those in Central Oahu, the Wahiawa Public Library is holding a night of free creepy and yet friendly stories time, and some ghostly and ghastly fun crafts on October 31 starting at 6 p.m. While the event is for kids ages 3 to 5, everybody is welcome to attend. Parents with loved ones needing a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation are advised to contact the Library at (808) 622-6345, two weeks in advance.
5.) Fangtastic Fest – On October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Ward Centers is hosting Fangtastic Fest, a Halloween event, which consists of contests, parade, and trick-or-treating. Visit their website for more info.
Visiting pumpkin patches is probably one of the least scary Halloween activities children can enjoy. If you already did and still wanted to try other activities with your kids this Halloween, try the aforementioned.
